We welcome dancers from all over the world to the Outgames dance competitions. The combination of sportsmanship, fun, beauty, flow and rhythm in the dance competitions makes for a fantastic event for spectators, who will be invited to take to the floor for social dancing during the breaks. Dance competitions, arranged in the context of the gay and lesbian community, have been hugely popular since their inception both because of the traditional qualities of dancing, but also because these competitions invite the dancers to define their dance styles and roles as leaders and followers according to temper and taste.
A spectacular White Nights ballroom party is included in the registration fee for Ballroom - information to follow.
For information about Standard and Latin competitions for same-sex couples, mixed couples, see below.
Standard and Latin dancing
The standard and Latin competitions are arranged in collaboration with PanDans, which hosted the dance competitions at the EuroGames in 2003, and the hugely successful Nordic Open same-sex dance competitions in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
The competitions will be divided into five levels from A to E, where A is advanced and E beginner. When you register, we ask you to evaluate your level. However, this is for planning purposes only and will not have any bearing upon your final level. Therefore, it is practical to be able to dance the dances belonging to the level above the one you register for. [ALTERNATIVE: You should, therefore, be prepared to dance at the level above that which you have registered for.]
More specific information about this sport will follow at the end of Early Registration on 1 October 2008. If you have any further questions about dance, you are welcome to contact us at dancing@copenhagen2009.org.
