The Outreach Program
The Outreach Program is a sponsorship program to help people from locations other than Canada, the United States, Western Europe, Israel, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong take part in Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames.
The Outreach Program has been established in order to have as many participants from as many countries as possible. World Outgames 2009, with its varied programs of sports, culture, and human rights conference, offers an ideal forum for exchanging experience and meeting people.
The Outreach Program aims to support 50 % men and 50 % women including transgender people.
An appointed Outreach Selection Committee composed of members from Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames, GLISA, EGLSF, ILGA, IGLHRC and HIVOS will propose applicants eligible for support from the program according to the selection criteria set by the organizers of Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames, and the level of support the proposed applicant should be offered. Applicants eligable for support are then confirmed by Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames.
We are sponsoring LGBT participants from locations other than Canada, the United States, Western Europe, Israel, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong because discrimination, be it in public life or at home, is still more often the rule than the exception in Eastern Europe, The Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. An open and visible gay and lesbian life is unimaginable in many places.
From our own history, we are aware how important it is to create possibilities for people to meet in times of rejection by society; and that it is a tremendous source of strength and encouragement.
We are showing a clear sign of solidarity simply in doing what we do best: enabling people to meet through sport, culture, and discussions of human rights. The Outreach Program enables us to make Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames a truly global event.
