Hivos supports Outreach Program

Dutch human rights foundation grants nearly a quarter of a  million dollars to help make sure citizens from developing countries are represented at World Outgames 2009.

Hivos, the Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries, announced the grant during a reception for partners, sponsors and volunteers at Copenhagen City Hall at the start of the recently completed World Outgames 2009 Network Weekend. The grant will help cover the expenses for participants from economically hard-hit parts of the world who would otherwise have no chance of being a part of World Outgames 2009.

"We believe it is extremely important that LGBT people from developing countries and Eastern Europe have the opportunity to be heard on a global platform such as World Outgames in Copenhagen and be able to freely tell the world about the problems and challenges facing them." said Hivos spokesman Paul Jensen.

For information about eligibility and how to apply please go to Outreach.

IGLA Championships at World Outgames 2009

World Outgames 2009 is proud to be hosting the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) world championships next year in Copenhagen.

IGLA co-president Lorraine Brown and board member Sean Fitzgerald were recently in Copenhagenfor the World Outgames networking weekend. The two were given a tour of the building site of the brand new Bellahøj swimming arena, where the championships are scheduled to take place. In addition, Lorraine and Sean also found time to take a swim with representatives from the local IGLA affilliate, Copenhagen Mermates, who are working with World Outgames to make sure the world championships in Copenhagen will be a success.

Representatives from World Outgames will attend the IGLA 2008 championships in Washington, so anyone interested in a personal meeting should send an email to swimming@copenhagen2009.org. We look forward to seeing you over there as well as over here.
