Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Stonewall
27 June 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, a spontaneous protest against prejudice and police brutality led by the guests of the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York City.
The Stonewall Rebellion gave birth to an active global movement against sexual oppression that has resulted in monumental changes in the way we all live and work, and our rights as citizens.
Millions come out
Stonewall literally sparked the "coming out" of millions of men and women. World Outgames 2009 will recognize, remember and honor the survivors and the deceased. And in so doing, acknowledge and proclaim that the struggle to be out continues in many parts of the world.
That's why we have chosen as our slogan and rallying cry: Love of Freedom. Freedom to Love.
