Women are loud and proud at World Outgames 2009 - not just for one night, not just for one day, but for a whole week with a strong female focus.
In the past you might have had trouble finding all the lesbians at international LGBT events. Not anymore! Because for the first time in LGBT event history World Outgames has created a permanent space for women.
Our female-managed Women’s Space is located right on the Outcities Route on the banks of one of Copenhagen’s beautiful canals. Here you can join a global community all week long, as we put women on the map and at the heart of the party. Making it loud and clear that World Outgames is an event for all genders.
Women's Space is free and open to everybody
from 11.00-23.00 from July 25 - July 31.
Friends, flirt, fun
Women’s Space is your space to talk, experience, share a drink, dance, flirt and join a whole week of great activities.
Women’s Space is also where you’ll find all the info you need on events for women in and around Copenhagen during the Outgames week. We have a whole program of satellite events run by and for women throughout the city, including exhibitions, tours, parties and events with a female focus all over town.
And to get every night off to a great start we’re hosting daily ‘Cocktails with Content’ from 5.30 pm, with burlesque cabaret, drag kings, lounge DJs, singer-songwriters – and lots of mingling.
Sisters - Doing it for themselves!
All the women hosting and performing in Women’s Space are unpaid - their own talented welcome gift to all the women in Copenhagen for World Outgames.
We have women to take you on a sunset trek – or take your picture. Women to feed your soul with morning Tai Chi and yoga – and a whole host of talent to entertain you. From unplugged folk rock to the latest electro - all wound up by Denmark’s best dyke DJs.
At the grand opening of Women’s Space we have cabaret by Australian Switch. Sofia Woods and Divo Sock have charmed and alarmed audiences worldwide with their neo-burlesque, drag king and gender queer performance.
In Copenhagen, they’ll be kicking off our ‘Cocktails with Content’ program, where we also proudly present the electronic duo Stream of Love with a musical experience beyond genders, cultures and continents. Tara Hogan is an Irish folk rock musician with inspiration from The Cranberries, Tori Amos and Jewel, and another singersongwriter you can look forward to meeting is Chili goes Chili with her acoustic songs about love, love, love - before, during and after.
We also have La Sanya with musical treasures by Jagger, Cohen, and Moyet – and another kind of cover number with a drag king twist as Julia Applegate & Friends take the mic. Not to mention the cool live a’lectro femmes StellaSound and JukeBox Baby with their mix of 80’s synth, edgy feminine vocals and rock guitar creating electro rock that sizzles and steams.
And our line-up of Djs is equally impressive. With Djuna Barnes, one of Denmark’s biggest DJs on the international scene, who has played alongside Miss Kittin, Chicks On Speed, Hot Chip, Clohé & queer legends like Peaches, Boy George and Grace Jones. And Dame U Love - a wonderfully weird sparkling collective with a strong feminist agenda. With the Dames you never know what you gonna get but a bang of a party!
And they’re in fine company, as night after night we bring you some of the city’s best sounds in the loving and capable hands of DJ Kat de Lux playing electro-tech with an edge and a big love for deep and hypnotizing basslines and clever vocals. DJ Helle Zebitz for who being a DJ is not just a job – it’s a passion. And the music doesn’t stop there. With DJs ASH, Le Mans and Betty Bronx completing the programme you’re guaranteed the very best.
And we’re not only rich in musical talent. Visit our exhibitions program and discover women artists from the entire globe in our ArtCruising program and the contemporary art exhibition ‘Lost and Found: Queerying the Archive’ where Heidi Lunnaba will be hosting her Beard Salon on the first World Outgames weekend. Choose from a whole catalog, and let Lunabba create your very own customized beard.
And in Women’s Space itself art photographer Charlotte Haslund-Christensen will be setting up a portrait studio and gathering material for the project ‘Gay Girls’. Be part of it!
