Why Melbourne is joining the OutCities Project

Melbourne – drop by our house!

The City of Melbourne is widely recognised as Australia’s cultural and sporting capital. Home to major sporting events such as the Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix, Melbournians are equally proud of the city’s considerable cultural assets.

Melbourne hosts an abundance of cultural venues, galleries and festivals and many of Australia’s internationally acclaimed artists live and work in the city. The arts spill out onto our streets, laneways and rooftops and our creativity is evident in everything we do.

We’re a well and truly out city, with a busy queer cultural calendar and a host of GLBTIQ organisations supported and promoted by the City. Add a passion for food and fashion, and Melbourne emerges as Australia’s most urbane city. It makes sense for Melbourne to participate in the OutCities Project!

Wherever people, sport, culture, creativity, inclusiveness and diversity collide, Melbourne feels right at home. So, as part of OutCities 2009, we look forward to inviting the world over to ‘our house’ - a welcoming Melbourne experience recreated in the centre of Copenhagen.

Melbourne has always thought ‘outside the square’ – now Copenhagen has given us one to play with!
