World Outgames 2009 proudly presents
The Queer Tango Festival
Imagine being able to spend eight fabulous days at the height of the Danish summer celebrating the passion of tango with hundreds of dancers from the international LGBT community.
From 25 July to 2 August 2009 you can experience an amazing week with some of the world’s best professional tango instructors, tango concerts, spectacular tango shows and Europe’s largest ever open-air milonga – the World OutGames tango ball that everyone can join.
So put on your dancing shoes and come to Copenhagen to be part of the global LGBT celebration that is World Outgames 2009, with tournaments in 38 sports disciplines, the World Outgames Human Rights Conference and much, much more.
As part of World OutGames, dancers in the Queer Tango Festival will have endless opportunities to make new friends, learn new steps – for fun, parties, networking, romance and sharing your passion for tango.
Queer Tango Festival, World Outgames 2009
Definitely something to dance about!
Preliminary Program
The preliminary program includes:
Workshops
We’re inviting some of the very best professional tango teachers to hold workshops and master-classes, including Miguel Moyano and Augusto Balizano (Argentina), Astrid Weiske and Susanna Ganarin (Germany), Mariana Falcon Docampo (Argentina), Maurizio Ghella and Martin Maldonado (Argentina), Helen "La Vikinga" Haldorsdottir (Iceland/Argentina), Ute Walter and Marga Nagel (Germany), Claudia Mai (Germany) and many, many more.
There will be workshops and classes for everyone from beginners to experienced tango aficionados, single-sex classes and classes for same-sex couples as well as for mixed couples, and workshops on leader and follower techniques for all genders.
Workshops supporting tangoing bodies – like Pilates and yoga - will also be on offer.
Six workshops are included in your registration fee, but come 2009 you’ll be able to buy extra workshops from the over 60 on offer at the Queer Tango Festival.
Tango Concerts and Shows
You can look forward to some of the best tango orchestras from Europe and Argentina, from duos and trios to large orchestras. Plus professional tango dancers will be performing and giving spectacular shows during the festival – every day!
Milongas
The festival opens on Sunday, 26 July 2009 with a major milonga – a tango salon in one of Copenhagen’s most spectacular ballrooms.
From Monday participants can meet and dance at milongas, most of them with live music. Some milongas will be held in the afternoon, and others in the evening.
Open-air
Some of the concerts and tango shows will take place as open-air events in the squares of central Copenhagen. One of the festival’s largest events is an open-air milonga – an outdoor tango ball - where several hundred tango dancers will join what we hope will be the largest open-air tango-party ever in Europe.
See the preliminary program.
Organisation
The festival is organised in collaboration with Tango Del Norte in Copenhagen.
