With over 35 years of activism in the LGBTQ community, Virginia Apuzzo has been a founding member of numerous gay and lesbian organizations.
Virginia Apuzzo is the founder and current President of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Centre. She serves as a Commissioner on the New York State Commission on Public Integrity. Through this Virginia Apuzzo became the first openly gay person to be confirmed by the Senate as a Commissioner. In the federal government she was appointed Assistant to President Bill Clinton, and became the highest-ranking gay person to serve at the White House to that time.
